Our Approach

Homeowners and residents are the backbone of every neighborhood.

S.H.A.C.’s Approach:

1. Organize current homeowners and residents into a vanguard group of stakeholders to lead the project.

2. Collaborate with public and private housing and financial organizations to help build a new generation of homeowners.

3. Target key blocks to launch the “Lock the Block” initiative to guarantee owner occupancy of all buildings on the block in perpetuity.

4. Promote the reuse of vacant buildings and lots in commercial areas with uses that support and contribute to the main street emphasis (vision) of the corridor.

5. Seek out grants and additional funding sources to provide adequate funding for the maintenance of public spaces, boulevards, and streetscapes.

6. Seek out grants and additional funding to select customized street lighting, where possible; replace older styles (e.g., cobra, shoebox) throughout the district.

S.H.A.C. is dedicated to developing and executing a neighborhood revitalization plan by embracing and coordinating with all other organizations and leaders in the Sherman Park neighborhood and around the city of Milwaukee. Homeowners and residents are the backbone of every neighborhood. They take ownership of not just their home, but their block and their larger neighborhood. They are the voters and community activists.

Sherman Park is the ideal place to develop a new Neighborhood Housing Cooperative and a Mutual Housing Network to help grow citizen involvement in their neighborhood through ownership in an appreciating asset -- the home and neighborhood in which they live.
